Botley Choral Society

The Society was formed to serve the residents of Botley and Curdridge in 1923 when amateur choral singing was particularly popular.

Under its conductor, David Burgess, the Choir gives an annual Easter concert, usually in Botley and one other venue, with a concert to coincide with St Cecilia’s Day in November or a Christmas performance.

From its early days, the Society has participated in the Winchester and County Music Festival. The Festival was an important social occasion and included a competition with other local choirs. In more recent times the competitive element has been dropped and the Festival now consists of two concerts in May. Each choir takes part in one of these, either at Winchester Cathedral or Romsey Abbey.

The Society is a Registered Charity and a member of Making Music (formerly the National Federation of Music Societies). Registered Charity No. 1085408
