Alex Ashworth - Bass

Alex was a choral scholar at St John’s College Cambridge, and then won a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music where he studied with Mark Wildman, David Lowe and Clara Taylor. Whilst there he won many prizes, including the Countess of Munster “Star Award”.

Recent oratorio performances include Mahler’s Eighth Symphony at Birmingham Symphony Hall, Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Theriesien Mass at the Three Choirs’ Festival at Gloucester and the Icelandic premiere of Handel’s Israel in Egypt. He performed Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the Halle Festival in Germany for Trevor Pinnock, was a finalist at the York International Early Music Festival, and has appeared at the BBC Proms.

Alex appears regularly in opera, and has made his debut for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Scottish Opera and Opera Lille. His roles include Eugene Onegin, Don Giovanni, Falstaff, Belcore (L’Elisir d’Amore), Marcello (La Boheme). He appears on many recordings and DVDs and has broadcast live with the BBC. Future plans include concerts across England and Iceland, and the title role in Walton’s “The Bear” in Aldeburgh and London.
